Indiana NEVI Funding Sites

Indiana round one awards were announced on March 28, 2024.  These NEVI funded Design-Build-Operate-Maintain (DBOM) awards will build out charging infrastructure throughout Indiana.  They had more than 100 applications from more than 15 organizations.  Indiana awarded a total of 39 sites in round one to 11 different applicants.  I used the data from the planning website to estimate the location of each of these sites.

Site listings:

Haubstadt I-64 – High Confidence

The Loves Travel Stop at 901 E 1250 S, Haubstadt, IN 47639.  This could be a good site for competition as the Pilot site across the street is part of the GM/EVgo expansion plan.  Loves has not listed their planned NEVI hardware so for now I am guessing ChargePoint Express Plus.

Ferdinand I-64 – Medium Confidence

Quality Inn & Suites at 440 Main St, Ferdinand, IN 47532 will host a new site awarded to Universal EV.  As a new smaller player in this space, there needs to be additional research to understand what the build out of hardware will look like at this site.

Leavenworth I-64 – High Confidence

The Loves Travel Stop at 6582 SR 66, Leavenworth, IN 47137.  Loves has not listed their planned NEVI hardware so for now I am guessing ChargePoint Express Plus.

Jeffersonville I-65 – Medium Confidence

Tesla was awarded this site to install a new Supercharger site 1540 Veterans Pkwy, Jeffersonville, IN 47130.  The Jeffersonville Town Center will be the host site for this new install.  We can expect the standard 8 stall location with V4 dispensers to support the NEVI requirements.

Seymour I-65 – Medium Confidence

BP will add a NEVI site at the TravelCenters of America at 2636 E Tipton St, Seymour, IN 47274.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Edinburgh I-65 – Medium Confidence

The Thorntons at 12001 N US 31, Edinburgh, IN 46124 will host this site awarded to BP.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Indianapolis I-65 – Medium Confidence

The BP gas station owned by Ricker Oil Co., Inc. at 5030 Southport Crossing, Indianapolis, IN 46237 will be the location for this stop.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Whitestown I-65 – Medium Confidence

BP will add a NEVI site at the TravelCenters of America at 5930 E SR 334, Whitestown, IN 46075.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Lafayette I-65 – Medium Confidence

Tesla was awarded this site to upgrade the existing Supercharger site hosted by Meijer at 4901 SR 26, Lafayette, IN 47905.  There are already 8 V2 and 16 V3 stalls.  The money will likely go to upgrade some or all stalls to V4 dispensers with magic docks to become NEVI compliant.

Merrillville I-65 – High Confidence

NIPSCO, one of Indiana’s biggest electric companies was awarded the site at 611 W Lincoln Hwy, Merrillville, IN 46410.  Here a Meijer will be the site host for the new charging infrastructure.  At existing sites, NIPSCO has partnered with Shell Recharge to be the CPO and has used Tritium hardware.  Until we see more about the plans for this site I am assuming more of the same.

Evansville I-69 – High Confidence

For Red E Charging, this is another NEVI site award win outside of their home state of Michigan.  Partnering with a Casey’s as the site host.  The stop at 2020 S Green River Rd, Evansville, IN 47715 should look very similar to Autel charger sites planned for MI.

Bloomington I-69 - High Confidence

The Chase Bank at 370 N Jacob Dr, Bloomington, IN 47404 will host the EVgo awarded site.  This is part of the ongoing partnership between EVgo and Chase.  I expect 2 Delta 350kW dual output power sharing units.

Indianapolis I-69 – Low Confidence

My low confidence is not on the location, but the implementation.  Since this site was awarded to the just the Village Pantry business at 9550 N Hague Road, Indianapolis, IN 46256, the implementation details are unknown.  For now, I will list ChargePoint Express Plus, since that seems to be the independent store solution, but this could easily change.

Gaston I-69 – Medium Confidence

BP will add a NEVI site at the TravelCenters of America at 14000 W SR 28, Gaston, IN 47342.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Marion I-69 – High Confidence

Part of the already planned Pilot/EVgo/GM buildout, the Flying J location at 6255 SR 18 E, Marion, IN 46952 will get the standard NEVI treatment.  Operated by EVgo as the CPO with dual 350kW Delta equipment, and hopefully a canopy as well.

Fort Wayne I-69 – Medium Confidence

Francis Energy was awarded this one site in Indiana helping them to build out the footprint into the Midwest.  As is common for Francis Energy they have partnered with a hotel to host this site.  The Hampton Inn at 3520 E Dupont Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46825 should have the standard SK Signet charger build out.

Fremont I-69 – Medium Confidence

BP will add a NEVI site at the TravelCenters of America at 7265 N Baker Rd, Fremont, IN 46737.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Terre Haute I-70 – Medium Confidence

The Thorntons at 2665 S SR 46, Terre Haute, IN 47803 will host this site awarded to BP.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Clayton I-70 – Medium Confidence

BP will add a NEVI site at the TravelCenters of America at 10346 S SR 39, Clayton, IN 46118.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Spiceland I-70 – High Confidence

Part of the already planned Pilot/EVgo/GM buildout, the Flying J location at 5300 S SR 3, Spiceland, IN 47382 will get the standard NEVI treatment.  Operated by EVgo as the CPO with dual 350kW Delta equipment, and hopefully a canopy as well.

Crawfordsville I-74 – High Confidence

Part of the already planned Pilot/EVgo/GM buildout, the Pilot location at 4403 E SR 32, Crawfordsville, IN 47933 will get the standard NEVI treatment.  Operated by EVgo as the CPO with dual 350kW Delta equipment, and hopefully a canopy as well.

Brownsburg I-74 – Low Confidence

In September 2023, it was announced that Wawa would be opening a location at 60 East Garner Rd, Brownsburg, IN 46112 in 2025.  This NEVI site build out could be part of the build of the new Wawa.  We don’t know Wawa’s network or hardware partner for the NEVI sites.

Shelbyville I-74 – Medium Confidence

Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 38 W Rampart Rd, Shelbyville, IN 46176 will host a new site awarded to Universal EV.  As a new smaller player in this space, there needs to be additional research to understand what the build out of hardware will look like at this site.

Batesville I-74 – Medium Confidence

BP will add a NEVI site at the BP Gas Station at 904 SR 229, Batesville, IN 47006.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Gary I-80 – Medium Confidence

NIPSCO, one of Indiana’s biggest electric companies was awarded the site at 5400 W 29th Ave, Gary, IN 46406.  Here the Hard Rock Casino will be the site host for the new charging infrastructure.  At existing sites, NIPSCO has partnered with Shell Recharge to be the CPO and has used Tritium hardware.  Until we see more about the plans for this site I am assuming more of the same.

Lake Station I-80 – High Confidence

Flying J Travel Center at 1401 Ripley St, Lake Station, IN 46405.  This is an already planned EVgo/Pilot/GM Energy location.  Makes sense that NEVI funds will be used to make sure this site becomes available.  I expect 2 Delta 350kW dual output power sharing units.

Rolling Prairie I-80E – High Confidence

Tesla was awarded this site to upgrade the existing Supercharger site on the Indiana Turnpike at the Knute Rockne Plaza (Mile marker 56 Eastbound).  There are already 8 V3 stalls here that support the adaptor.  There are also 2 EV Connect stations.  The money will likely go to upgrade these 8 stalls to V4 dispensers with magic docks.

Rolling Prairie I-80W – High Confidence

Tesla was awarded this site to upgrade the existing Supercharger site on the Indiana Turnpike at the Wilbur Shaw Plaza (Mile marker 56 Westbound).  There are already 8 V3 stalls here that support the adaptor.  There are also 2 EV Connect stations.  The money will likely go to upgrade these 8 stalls to V4 dispensers with magic docks.

Howe I-80W – High Confidence

Tesla was awarded this site to upgrade the existing Supercharger site on the Indiana Turnpike at the Ernie Pyle Travel Plaza (Mile marker 126 Westbound).  There are already 8 V3 stalls here that support the adaptor.  The money will likely go to upgrade these 8 stalls to V4 dispensers with magic docks and/or add more stalls.

Michigan City I-94 – High Confidence

The Loves Travel Stop at 10157 N Love's Ave, Michigan City, IN 46360.  There is existing competition at this site as at the Meijer to the north at this exit is a six stall Electrify America location.  Loves has not listed their planned NEVI hardware so for now I am guessing ChargePoint Express Plus.

New Albany I-265 – Medium Confidence

Tesla was awarded this site to install a new Supercharger site 4222 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, IN 47150.  The Meijer at this location will be the host site for this new install.  We can expect the standard 8 stall location with V4 dispensers to support the NEVI requirements.

Speedway I-465 – Medium Confidence

The Thorntons at 5760 Crawfordsville Rd, Speedway, IN 46224 will host this site awarded to BP.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Indianapolis I-465 – High Confidence

Tesla was awarded this site to upgrade the existing Supercharger site at 5120 Victory Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46203.  The La Quinta Inn and Suites hosts this site.  There are already 8 V2 stalls here that are part of the early build out.  The money will likely go to upgrade these 8 stalls to V4 dispensers with magic docks and/or add more stalls.

Indiana Interactive Map

Site Map with 25 Mile Radius Loops

Indiana’s plan to build out in round 1 focused on major corridors.  The I-80 interstate in the north gets a lot of coverage.  Then the coverage is also focused around Indianapolis.  This leaves a lot of the state not covered and leaves some gaps even on major interstate highways.  Round 2 planned for the end of 2024 should target to fill in these gaps.

Ohio NEVI Funding Round 1 and 2

Ohio was one of the first in the nation to send out the request for proposals and start to award NEVI funding to start the build out of the statewide EV charging infrastructure.  In 2023 sites were awarded, and construction has already begun.  The NEVI award documents from Ohio are very clear on the locations and companies for each site.  Since all these plans are fixed all sites on this list are listed with high confidence.  The list here will be updated with the status as the sites come online and if any changes happen.

Round 1 Coverage Map Of 50-mile radius from each site:

Almost all of Ohio is within 50 miles of one of the 23 round 1 NEVI sites and all the major interstate highways are covered from border to border.  The only missing areas are One: a small piece in the northwest corner. This piece is covered by 3 existing sites, two on the Ohio Turnpike both east and west bound service centers have Electrify America locations, also just off the turnpike at the western most exit there is an EVgo/Pilot station charging stop.  Two: the southern middle, which is not served by interstate highway travel as the only piece of Ohio not covered by round 1 site awards.

Round 2 Sites with 25-mile radius.

Round 2 Awards are focused more on population centers.  5 of the 22 sites are in the Columbus metro area, 3 support Cincinnati and Dayton.  Additionally, they added coverage in the northeast of Ohio for I-76 and I-71.

Worthington I-270 – High Confidence

The Kroger at 60 Worthington Mall, Worthington, OH 43085 will host a site awarded to Red E Charging.  This is Red E Charging’s first NEVI win in Ohio, but they already have awarded sites in Michigan and Indiana.  This site adds coverage on the northside of Columbus. I expect that they will stick with their standard Autel Max Charger build out.

Columbus I-270 – High Confidence

Sheetz is installing a NEVI site at 4355 W Broad St, Columbus, OH 43228.  This site adds coverage on the west side of Columbus.  Sheetz being a convenience store chain is planning this build out, but we don’t know yet the plan for the operator or equipment.  For now, I am guessing that they will use ChargePoint Express Plus hardware.

Cincinnati I-275 – High Confidence

Meijer at 3711 Stone Creek Blvd, Cincinnati, OH 45251.  Here Ohio is adding coverage to the busy I-275 loop around Cincinnati.  For other sites, Meijer has partnered with EVgo.  I expect the same here with the EVgo standard 2 Delta 350kW power sharing units.

Cincinnati I-275 – High Confidence

United Dairy Farmers (UDF) is another convenience store chain getting into the EV charging site business.  With the location at United Dairy Farmers, they will have their first NEVI funded site.  For now, I am guessing that they will use ChargePoint Express Plus hardware.

Akron I-77 – High Confidence

The Giant Eagle at 3750 W Market St, Akron, OH 44333 will host this site.  The award is to Electric Era, a small startup from the Seattle area that claims to be able to install new chargers in a few months, compared to the normal 6-to-12-month timeline.  They offer SK Signet hardware that is backed up by a battery system that provides on site 220 kWh of buffer storage.  They are planning to support both CCS and J3400.  Depending on usage and the grid connection, I wonder just how well 220kWh of battery buffer is going to work.

Independence I-77 – High Confidence

Doubletree Hotel at 6200 Quarry Ln, Independence, OH 44131 will host this site.  Francis Energy is awarded this site filling in coverage near the intersection of I-480 and I-77.  Francis Energy has a contract with SK Signet to buy 1000 of their NEVI compliant units and these will likely be used at all the Ohio sites.

Marion US-23 – High Confidence

The Comfort Inn at 256 James Way, Marion, OH 43302 is 34 miles southeast of the previous site, adding coverage to the US-23 corridor.  This site will be run by another new to Ohio CPO, Jule.  They should install a site like the awarded site in Michigan with both CCS1 and J3400 plugs, as well as being buffered from the grid by onsite battery storage to handle peak demands.  Jule designs and builds their own hardware.

Upper Sandusky US-23 – High Confidence

The Love's Travel Stop at 1301 N Warpole St, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351 splits the previous two sites along US-23 and adds coverage at the intersection with US-30.  We don’t yet know what the Loves build out plan is going to look like.  For now, I am guessing that they will use ChargePoint Express Plus hardware.

Wooster US-30 – High Confidence

Wayne Lanes at 1983 Lincoln Way E, Wooster, OH 44691 is listed as the site host.  Francis Energy is awarded this site, filling in coverage along US-30 which is 80 miles east of the previous site.  Francis Energy has a contract with SK Signet to buy 1000 of their NEVI compliant units and these will likely be used at all the Ohio sites.

Canton US-30 – Medium Confidence

This is the only site for Ohio I list with medium confidence.  The award information only lists ‘parking lot’.  My best guess for the lot in question is at 2416 Tuscarawas St W, Canton, OH 44708.  Francis Energy is awarded this site, filling in coverage along US-30 which is 30 miles east of the previous site.  Francis Energy has a contract with SK Signet to buy 1000 of their NEVI compliant units and these will likely be used at all the Ohio sites.
