Kentucky NEVI Funding Sites

In October 2023, Kentucky released the list of Round 1 and 2 NEVI funded Design-Build-Operate-Maintain (DBOM) award winners.  In round 1, Kentucky awarded 16 sites to 6 different operating companies.  In round 2, Kentucky awarded 8 sites to 5 different operators.  Round 3 was announced in May 2024; this award included 18 sites by 8 operators.

The first round of awards focuses on coverage of major travel corridors, but this leaves some areas without coverage.  We can expect many of these gaps to be filled in with future funding round awards.

Wisconsin NEVI Funding Sites

Wisconsin announced the winners of the round 1 NEVI site awards on 5/24/2024.  With 53 sites selected from 250+ applications.  A total of $23.3 million dollars of federal money allocated to bring DCFC throughout Wisconsin.  The convenience store chain Kwik Trip was awarded one third of the money ($8.1 million) to install 24 of the 53 sites.  The officials have listed in the FAQ for this release that 46 out of the 53 awarded sites expect to install SAE J3400 connectors in addition to the required CCS1.  We also know from the Wisconsin Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (WEVI) website that there will be many different hardware solutions implemented; “WEVI charging stations use many different charging station models, including Aliptronic America, ChargePoint, Jule, Kempower, Red E Charge, SK Signet, Tellus Power Green, and Tesla.”

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 319 Oak Ave, Menomonie, WI 54751.  At less than $100k this is tied for the smallest award.  The power must already be in place and money here is for the EVSE, install, and operation. Saint Croix Falls

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 2072 W 130th Ave Us Highway 8, St Croix Falls, WI 54024.  While this looks like a new gas station, it does not appear to be any prep work has been done to bring additional power to this site.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Cameron

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 201 S 1st St, Cameron, WI 54822.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Ladysmith

The Fairbridge Inn Express Ladysmith at 800 College Ave, Ladysmith, WI 54847 will host this site.   There don’t appear to be any other amenities at this location.  Site award has gone to Francis Energy. As with their other NEVI site awards, based on the contract with S/K Signet, we can expect to see that hardware at these sites.

Rhinelander

The Culver’s at 620 W Kemp St, Rhinelander, WI 54501 will host this site.  The money awarded for this site is the second highest amount.  In Google Maps you can see there is a fairly large electrical substation almost across the street, so hopefully electric power access won’t be an issue for this site.  Zero6 is the award winner with the plan to use ChargePoint Express units at this site.

Crandon

Potawatomi Fire Side Market at 5326 Fire Keeper Rd, Crandon, WI 54520 was awarded this site.  The site was awarded to Potawatomi Ventures with the CPO being Red E Charge. We can expect the Red E Charge branded units here.

Armstrong Creek

The Corner Store at 497 US-8, Armstrong Creek, WI 54103, was awarded this site.  Looking at this site on Google this in the northern reaches of Wisconsin with likely limited infrastructure.  Being isolated this site is very likely to use an onsite battery backup.  Installation in the given space should be interesting to follow.  This site will be run by Universal EV. I have guessed Blink NEVI hardware, but this site may be different due to the location.

Chippewa Falls

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 1267 Chippewa Crossing Blvd, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.  This is new location opened within the last year.  If they planned for charging in the infrastructure build up, then installing charging here should be relatively easy; which would explain the low award amount for this site.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Thorp

The Express Mart at 602 S Washington St, Thorp, WI 54771, was awarded this site.  Looking at this site on Google Street View doesn’t show a lot of space to install charging hardware for 4 different parking spots.  Installation in the given space should be interesting to follow.  CPO will be Jule and installed hardware will be NEVI compliant battery backed charging solution at this site.

Abbotsford

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 301 Elderberry Rd, Abbotsford, WI 54405.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Hatley

The BP gas station at 401 State Rd, Hatley, WI 54440, was awarded this site.  This award is to GPM Southeast, a large convenience store group that has won many other site awards in other states. The plans show they will use Jule as the CPO and hardware solution.

Bonduel

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 102 Express Way, Bonduel, WI 54107.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Green Bay

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip and the third location in the Green Bay area.  The address here is 1871 Shawano Ave, Green Bay, WI 54303.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.
