Wisconsin NEVI Funding Sites

Wisconsin announced the winners of the round 1 NEVI site awards on 5/24/2024.  With 53 sites selected from 250+ applications.  A total of $23.3 million dollars of federal money allocated to bring DCFC throughout Wisconsin.  The convenience store chain Kwik Trip was awarded one third of the money ($8.1 million) to install 24 of the 53 sites.  The officials have listed in the FAQ for this release that 46 out of the 53 awarded sites expect to install SAE J3400 connectors in addition to the required CCS1.  We also know from the Wisconsin Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (WEVI) website that there will be many different hardware solutions implemented; “WEVI charging stations use many different charging station models, including Aliptronic America, ChargePoint, Jule, Kempower, Red E Charge, SK Signet, Tellus Power Green, and Tesla.”

Coverage Map with 25 Mile Radius Circles:

8/17/2024 - Major update from Wisconsin DOT has filled in many unknowns.

Oxford

The Citgo at N4190 Crossroads Clinic Rd, Oxford, WI 53952 will host this site.  This site is awarded to EvGateway.  Equipment is planned as Tellus Power NEVI units.

Plover

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 5339 Harding Ave, Plover, WI 54467.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Mosinee

The Quality Inn Central Wisconsin Airport at 400 Orbiting Dr, Mosinee, WI 54455 will host this site.  Universal EV won the bid for this site.  Best guess for their equipment solution is Blink NEVI units.

Green Bay

The first of three awarded sites in Green Bay.  Here the Oneida Casino at 2522 W Mason St, Green Bay, WI 54303 will host.  The site is awarded to Oneida Engineering Solutions and they will be using Red E Charge as the CPO. Based on this we can expect to see the rebadged Autel units at this site.

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 408 S Wright St, Delavan, WI 53115.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Greenfield

The award lists a Tesla Supercharger at 4777 S 27th St, Greenfield, WI 53221.  Currently at this address is a Festival Foods.  There is an existing Tesla Supercharger about 2 miles away at a Meijer.  I am going to guess the address is wrong and the money awarded will go towards upgrading the existing Supercharger location at 5800 W Layton Ave, Greenfield, WI 53220.  This will we a Tesla owned and operated site.

Milwaukee

The Residence Inn by Marriott Milwaukee at 7003 N Port Washington Rd, Milwaukee, WI 53217 will be the host for this award.  Site award has gone to Francis Energy. As with their other NEVI site awards, based on the contract with S/K Signet, we can expect to see that hardware at these sites.

Sheboygan

The Sleep Inn & Suites at 3912 Motel Rd, Sheboygan, WI 53081 will host this next awarded site.  Site award has gone to Francis Energy. As with their other NEVI site awards, based on the contract with S/K Signet, we can expect to see that hardware at these sites.

The Shell gas station at 1701 S 41st St, Manitowoc, WI 54220 is the site awardee for this location.  This site is awarded to EvGateway.  Equipment is planned as Tellus Power NEVI units.

Green Bay

The second of three site awards in Green Bay goes to Festival Foods at 2534 Steffens Court, Green Bay, 54311.  CPO will be Jule and installed hardware will be NEVI compliant battery backed charging solution at this site.

La Cosse

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 1133 George St W, La Crosse, WI 54603.  There doesn't seem to be a lot of space to install chargers at this location. Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Tomah

The truck stop chain Road Ranger will host the site at 102 E Woody St, Tomah, WI 54660.  This site was awarded the most money of all 53 sites.  At almost $1 million this should be a nice site.  Operator or CPO is unknown.  Equipment is unknown.

Baraboo

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 1171 Wisconsin Dells Pkwy S, Baraboo, WI 53913.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Portage

The TA Travel Center gas station at 5800 Kinney Rd, Portage, WI 53901, was awarded this site.  This has been confirmed to be a planned part of the BP Pulse network. In what is a change from what BP Pulse has installed in the past, this is expected to use Alpitronic hardware. This hardware shift may be due to the local in Wisconsin manufacture of the Alpitronic units.

Deforest

The Shell gas station at 6162 US Hwy 51, Deforest, WI 53532 is the site awardee for this location.  This site is awarded to EvGateway.  Equipment is planned as Tellus Power NEVI units.

Edgerton

Edgerton Truck Stop at 568 Haugen Rd, Edgerton, WI 53534 was awarded this site.  This site is awarded to the owners of the truck stop. They may be planning to partner with Kwik Trip as part of the large Wisconsin build out.

Janesville

This is the other Tesla awarded site.  The award listed address 3222 US-14, Janesville, WI 53546 is one mile away from the existing Supercharger at 2915 N Lexington Dr, Janesville, WI 53545.  I expect that this award will go towards upgrading this existing site, not making a new site.

Menomonie

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 319 Oak Ave, Menomonie, WI 54751.  At less than $100k this is tied for the smallest award.  The power must already be in place and money here is for the EVSE, install, and operation. Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 2001 Golf Rd, Pewaukee, WI 53072.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Mercer

Snow’s Family Market at 5126 US-51, Mercer, WI 54547 will host this site.  As a farther north site, there is strong potential that battery backed up solution would be best for this site install.  This site will be run by Universal EV. I have guessed Blink NEVI hardware, but this site may be different due to the location.

Eau Claire

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 1506 Black Ave, Eau Claire, WI 54703.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. Rice Lake

A Menards at 2920 Decker Dr, Rice Lake, WI 54868 will host this site.  CPO will be Jule and installed hardware will be NEVI compliant battery backed charging solution at this site.

Minong

KornerStores Inc won the award for this and the next site in the list.  These two stores are 30 miles apart on US-53 and should share a common layout.  This site is located at 1030 W Hokah St, Minong, WI 54859.  CPO will be Jule and installed hardware will be NEVI compliant battery backed charging solution at this site.

Hawthorne

9050 E County Rd B, Hawthorne, WI 54842 is the location of the second site awarded to KornerStores Inc. CPO will be Jule and installed hardware will be NEVI compliant battery backed charging solution at this site.

Saint Croix Falls

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 2072 W 130th Ave Us Highway 8, St Croix Falls, WI 54024.  While this looks like a new gas station, it does not appear to be any prep work has been done to bring additional power to this site.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Rhinelander

The Culver’s at 620 W Kemp St, Rhinelander, WI 54501 will host this site.  The money awarded for this site is the second highest amount.  In Google Maps you can see there is a fairly large electrical substation almost across the street, so hopefully electric power access won’t be an issue for this site.  Zero6 is the award winner with the plan to use ChargePoint Express units at this site.

Crandon

Potawatomi Fire Side Market at 5326 Fire Keeper Rd, Crandon, WI 54520 was awarded this site.  The site was awarded to Potawatomi Ventures with the CPO being Red E Charge. We can expect the Red E Charge branded units here.

Armstrong Creek

The Corner Store at 497 US-8, Armstrong Creek, WI 54103, was awarded this site.  Looking at this site on Google this in the northern reaches of Wisconsin with likely limited infrastructure.  Being isolated this site is very likely to use an onsite battery backup.  Installation in the given space should be interesting to follow.  This site will be run by Universal EV. I have guessed Blink NEVI hardware, but this site may be different due to the location.

Chippewa Falls

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 1267 Chippewa Crossing Blvd, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.  This is new location opened within the last year.  If they planned for charging in the infrastructure build up, then installing charging here should be relatively easy; which would explain the low award amount for this site.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Thorp

The Express Mart at 602 S Washington St, Thorp, WI 54771, was awarded this site.  Looking at this site on Google Street View doesn’t show a lot of space to install charging hardware for 4 different parking spots.  Installation in the given space should be interesting to follow.  CPO will be Jule and installed hardware will be NEVI compliant battery backed charging solution at this site.

Abbotsford

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 301 Elderberry Rd, Abbotsford, WI 54405.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Hatley

The BP gas station at 401 State Rd, Hatley, WI 54440, was awarded this site.  This award is to GPM Southeast, a large convenience store group that has won many other site awards in other states. The plans show they will use Jule as the CPO and hardware solution.

Bonduel

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip.  The address here is 102 Express Way, Bonduel, WI 54107.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.

Green Bay

Part of the 23-site award to Kwik Trip and the third location in the Green Bay area.  The address here is 1871 Shawano Ave, Green Bay, WI 54303.  Kwik Trip looks to be using a white label solution of the Gilbarco Veeder-Root Konect system. This company is a major player in the gas pump business, and now they are getting into EV chargers. The hardware looks like S/K Signet units from the brochure, but I could also see a partnership with Kempower.
