Illinois NEVI Funding Sites

 Illinois round one awards were announced on September 9, 2024.  These NEVI funded Design-Build-Operate-Maintain (DBOM) awards will build out charging infrastructure throughout Illinois.  A total of 37 projects in round one to 9 different applicants.  The conditional award release information included full location (business and address) and proposed funding amount.  Love’s Travel Stops was again a big award winner and Francis Energy also did very well.  Michigan based Red E Charge conditionally awarded one site, and both Tesla and Pilot/Flying J did not have any site awards.

Francis Energy has a 12-site award in Illinois, helping them to build out their footprint into the Midwest.  Miles Brother Food at 97 Red Bud Ln, Vienna, IL 62995 should have the standard SK Signet charger layout.

Minonk I-39 – High Confidence

Modern Stay 39 at 1312 Carolyn Dr, Minonk, IL 61760 will host a new site awarded to Universal EV.  The NEVI site awards build upon the previous large number of other EV sites Illinois has awarded Universal EV.  Based on current installations, the expectation is that these sites will use hardware from ChargeTronix.

Oglesby I-39 – High Confidence

The Loves Travel Stop at 1001 W Walnut St, Oglesby, IL 61348.  Love’s recent press releases continue to showcase ChargePoint Express Plus in the pictures, so this is the expected hardware.  The award list shows this site as having 6 charging ports.

Rochelle I-39 – High Confidence

Electrify America has 3 site awards in this round, including this site at 900 Petro Rd, Rochelle, IL 61068.  The Petro Travel Center will be the host site for this new installation.  We can expect the standard 6 stall location with Electrify America’s Gen4 BTC Power dispensers.

Bolingbrook I-55 – High Confidence

Electrify America has 3 site awards in this round, including this site at 111 Lily Cache Ln, Bolingbrook, IL 60440.  Bank Of America will be the host site for this new installation.  We can expect the standard 6 stall location with Electrify America’s Gen4 BTC Power dispensers.

Dwight I-55 – High Confidence

The Loves Travel Stop at 12 W Northbrook Dr, Dwight, IL 60420.  Love’s recent press releases continue to showcase ChargePoint Express Plus in the pictures, so this is the expected hardware.  The award list shows this site as having 6 charging ports.

Litchfield I-55 – High Confidence

Francis Energy has a 12-site award in Illinois, helping them to build out their footprint into the Midwest.  Burger King at 2 Corvette Dr, Litchfield, IL 62056 should have the standard SK Signet charger layout.

Cicero I-55 – High Confidence

For Red E Charging, this is another NEVI site award won outside of their home state of Michigan.  Partnering with a Gas N Wash as the site host.  The stop at 3800 S Cicero Ave, Cicero, IL 60804 should look very similar to Autel charger sites planned for MI.

Ullin I-57 – High Confidence

Francis Energy has a 12-site award in Illinois, helping them to build out their footprint into the Midwest.  Triple E Barbeque at 24 Cheekwood Ln, Ullin, IL 62992 should have the standard SK Signet charger layout.

Marion I-57 – High Confidence

Microtel Inn at 1615 Rion Dr, Champaign, IL 61822 will host a new site awarded to Universal EV.  The NEVI site awards build upon the previous large number of other EV sites Illinois has awarded Universal EV.  Based on current installations, the expectation is that these sites will use hardware from ChargeTronix.

Francis Energy has a 12-site award in Illinois, helping them to build out their footprint into the Midwest.  The Super 8 at 1301 S Crescent St, Gilman, IL 60938 is hosting in a common occurrence for Francis Energy to partner with hotels.  This site should have the standard SK Signet charger layout.

New Baden I-64 – High Confidence

The Loves Travel Stop at 8690 Richter School Rd, New Baden, IL 62265.  Love’s recent press releases continue to showcase ChargePoint Express Plus in the pictures, so this is the expected hardware.  The award list shows this site as having 6 charging ports.

O'Fallon I-64 – High Confidence

Francis Energy has a 12-site award in Illinois, helping them to build out their footprint into the Midwest.  Casey’s at 504 Hartman Ln, O'Fallon, IL 62269 will host.  This site should have the standard SK Signet charger layout.

Casey I-70 – High Confidence

Meyer Oil Company at 939 IL-49, Casey, IL 62420 will host this site.  Philips 66 is the winner of this award, and thus extending their network that has been more western states based towards the Midwest.  We can expect standard ChargePoint Express Plus hardware built at this location.

Greenville I-70 – High Confidence

The Loves Travel Stop at 3925 County Fair Dr, Decatur, IL 62526.  This is the most expensive site award of this group at over $1M.  Love’s recent press releases continue to showcase ChargePoint Express Plus in the pictures, so this is the expected hardware.  The award list shows this site as having 6 charging ports.

Jacksonville I-72 – High Confidence

EVgo managed 2 site awards in round 1 from Illinois.  This site will be installed at Kohl’s address 401 N Main St, East Peoria, IL 61611.  We can expect 3 Delta 350kW dual output power sharing units.  The award list shows this site as having 6 charging ports.

Knoxville I-74 – High Confidence

Moline I-74 – High Confidence

Francis Energy has a 12-site award in Illinois, helping them to build out their footprint into the Midwest.  The South Park Mall at 4401 27th St, Moline, IL 61265 will host.  This site should have the standard SK Signet charger layout.

Joliet I-80 – High Confidence

Princeton I-80 – High Confidence

Francis Energy has a 12-site award in Illinois, helping them to build out their footprint into the Midwest.  Casey’s at 2125 N Main St, Princeton, IL 61356 will host.  This site should have the standard SK Signet charger layout.

North Aurora I-88 – High Confidence

Francis Energy has a 12-site award in Illinois, helping them to build out their footprint into the Midwest.  Red Roof Inn at 201 Smoketree Plaza, North Aurora, IL 60542 will host.  This site should have the standard SK Signet charger layout.

Chicago I-90 – High Confidence

In the Chicago area BP Pulse has been awarded a couple of sites.  This location in Chicago is at the Amoco with address 4306 S Wentworth Ave, Chicago, IL 60609.  The recent awards to BP Pulse following a usage of Alpitronic Hyperchargers, I expect the same at this site.

Elgin I-90 – High Confidence

In the Chicago area BP Pulse has been awarded a couple of sites.  The PRIDE of Eglin BP with address 1700 N State St, Elgin, IL 60123 will host this site.  The recent awards to BP Pulse following a usage of Alpitronic Hyperchargers, I expect the same at this site.

Rolling Meadows I-90 – High Confidence

Meijer has expanded upon their awards from Ohio and other states into Illinois.  The Meijer at 1301 Meijer Dr, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008 will host this site.  Meijer has the option to partner with just about any of the CPOs, but my guess is for the NEVI sites that they will stick with EVgo and thus this site will have Delta 350kW dual output power sharing units.

Westchester I-290 – High Confidence

The Thorntons at 5760 Crawfordsville Rd, Speedway, IN 46224 will host this site awarded to BP.  We can expect to see either Alpitronic, Tritium or Tesla hardware here to provide charging on the BP network.

Elmhurst I-290 – High Confidence

Electrify America has 3 site awards in this round, including this site at 601 N York St, Elmhurst, IL 60126.  The York Center Plaza will be the host site for this new installation.  We can expect the standard 6 stall location with Electrify America’s Gen4 BTC Power dispensers.

Illinois’ plan to build out in round 1 focused on interstate highways.  Most of the interstates have some coverage.   Not unsurprisingly, a lot of the coverage is around Chicago and focused on the northeast corner of the state.  I am surprised to see as many gaps remain along some of the southward interstates.  The southeast corner of the state looks almost completely left out.

Money Summary:

In this first round of funding IDOT has awarded over $25.3 million dollars.  Love's Travel Stops 11 awarded sites takes just over $8.8 million of this money.  Francis Energy is second with 12 and $8.1 million.  Three companies each won three sites: EA worth $1.6 million, Universal EV worth $1.9 million, BP Pulse worth $1.5 million.  The most expensive award is $1.1 million for the Decatur site.  The least expensive award is for $429k for the Westchester site.
