A review from my road trip to visit all the EVgo sites in Michigan

Business/Location Name

Dunkin’ Dearborn Heights

Address

4345 S Telegraph Rd, Dearborn Heights, MI

Network

EVgo

Station Details

1 Station (50kW)

Cost

$0.35 per minute

The Dunkin’ Dearborn Heights EVgo station was the 3rd stop on my lap around Michigan (only available in metro Detroit)

Accessibility

This Dunkin’ is on Telegraph Rd, 1 mile north of I-94 exit 202.

Amenities

Dining options include: Dunkin’, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, China Lucky Star, Papa John’s, Tim Hortons, KFC

Shopping options are not available on this stretch of Telegraph as this site is in a mostly residential area.

Car-related services (windshield cleaning, air):  The Citgo Gas Station 0.5 miles away is the closest option.

Concentration

This is the standard single station layout for EVgo.  This station is in a pull beside configuration making front port connections more challenging, but those with fender locations should have an easy time to make a connection.

Location

While located relatively close to I-94, I don’t think this site was envisioned as a travel site.  While Telegraph Rd is also a major north/south route, this location works more as a neighborhood charging solution.  This site supports those in the area that might not have access to level 2 charging at their house or apartment.

Speed

EVgo is offering the some of the slowest DC fast chargers in this market.  These units can output 50kW, but for most vehicles will charge much slower than that.  While these sites would have been acceptable when first installed 6 years ago, they are not up to the standards of what is available today.

Summary

A site score of 16, is absolutely terrible.  Even if this location was functional, I would not recommend anyone to seek out this site for charging unless you absolutely must.  This is the type of location and service that gives EVgo such a bad name.  There is a chance this site has since been repaired.  As of the end of November 2021, the EVgo app shows this site as back available, but there are no new successful check-in’s on Plugshare, so nothing to confirm the site is actually functional.
