A review from my road trip to visit all the EVgo
sites in Michigan
Business/Location Name | Dunkin’ Woodhaven |
Address | 20050 West Rd, Woodhaven, MI |
Network | EVgo |
Station Details | 1 Station (50kW) |
Cost | $0.35 per minute |
The Dunkin’ Woodhaven EVgo station was the 2nd stop on my lap around Michigan (only available in metro Detroit)
Accessibility
This Dunkin’ is on the north side of West Rd in Woodhaven, MI. East of I-75 at exit 32. 0.8 miles from the exits just before you get to the intersection with Allen Rd.
Amenities
Dining options include: Dunkin’. Starbucks,
White Castle, Smoothie King, Chick-fil-A, Bob Evans, Tropical Smoothie Café,
Christoff’s, Applebee’s and others
Shopping options include: Aldi, Goodwill,
Meijer, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and others
Car-related services (windshield cleaning, air): The Meijer Gas Station 0.5 miles away is the
closest option.
Concentration
This is the standard single station layout for
EVgo. This
station is in a pull beside configuration making front port connections more
challenging, but those with fender locations should have an easy time to make a
connection.
Location
While this site is located close to I-75, I
would not consider it a long-distance travel supporting site. This seems to be more of a community charging
location, where one can take advantage of the local shops while charging. The high traffic area means plenty of
vehicles in this area can take advantage of this EVSE, but the traffic is also
a negative against trying to get in a quick charge while travelling.
Speed
EVgo is offering
the some of the slowest DC fast chargers in this market. These units can output 50kW, but for most
vehicles will charge much slower than that.
While these sites would have been acceptable when first installed 6
years ago, they are not up to the standards of what is available today.
Summary
This is one of the higher scoring EVgo
sites. With this being my first charge,
I was disappointed to see only 35kW charging speed. This is a high traffic area
which makes access a little difficult, but also reflects the multiple options
of food and shopping nearby. At $0.64, this is the most expensive charging in
the area, for not fast or reliable service.
What I paid for this stop:
Total Cost: $2.23
Total kWh: 3.46kWh
Time: 6 minutes
Average Charge Speed: 34.6kW (calculated)
Cost per kWh: $0.35 per minute ($0.645 per kWh – calculated)
Total Score (Max 44) | Score | Accessibility | Amenities | Usability |
20 | C | 5 | 5 | 10 |
