Dunkin' - Ferndale, MI

 Introduction

02/05/2023 - This Site is now Closed

A review from my road trip to visit all the EVgo sites in Michigan

Business/Location Name

Dunkin’ Ferndale

Address

22451 Woodward Ave, Ferndale, MI

Network

EVgo

Station Details

1 Station (50kW)

Cost

$0.35 per minute

The Dunkin’ Ferndale EVgo station was the 1st stop on my lap around Michigan (only available in metro Detroit)

Accessibility

This Dunkin’ is on the west side of Woodward in Ferndale, MI.  If you are headed south on Woodward, you want to go just past the Dunkin’ and turn right onto Leroy St to access the parking lot on the south side.

Amenities

Dining options include: Dunkin’. McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Anita’s Kitchen, Sneakers Pub, The Emory and others

Shopping options include: Many small shops along Woodward, but not clustered in this area.

There are no gas stations for car-related services (windshield cleaning, air), but there is a Mobil station across Woodward to the northeast.

Concentration

This is the standard single station layout for EVgo.  This station is in a pull beside configuration making front port connections more challenging, but those with fender locations should have an easy time to make a connection.

Location

This site is not positioned along a highway corridor.  Woodward Ave is a highly traveled route into and out of downtown Detroit.  This is not so much configured as a travel charge location, but more as a neighborhood charging solution.  This site supports those in the area that might not have access to level 2 charging at their house or apartment.

Speed

EVgo is offering the some of the slowest DC fast chargers in this market.  These units can output 50kW, but for most vehicles will charge much slower than that.  While these sites would have been acceptable when first installed 6 years ago, they are not up to the standards of what is available today.

Summary

I got to meet a fellow EV owner Nate at this stop.  He was charging his Chevy Bolt when I arrived.  Nate looked well versed for his charging stop.  This is one of the lowest scoring sites in my reviews.  However, this site does seem to get more use than I would have expected.  I think it get a lot of neighborhood charging and opportunity changing usage.

What I paid for this stop:

Total Cost: $0.00

Total kWh: 0kWh

Time: 0 minutes

Average Charge Speed: NA

Cost per kWh: $0.35 per minute

(I did not charge here as Nate was already using to charge is Chevy Bolt)
