Walmart - Huber Heights

 Introduction

Site review from my trip to review all the Electrify America locations in Ohio.

Business/Location Name

Walmart – Huber Heights

Address

7680 Brandt Pike Huber Heights, OH

Network

Electrify America

Station Details

6 Stations (2 x 350kW/ 4 x 150kW)

Cost

$0.48 per kWh ($0.36 member price)

The Walmart – Huber Heights Electrify America station was the 4th stop on my trip exploring charging sites across Ohio.  (This station opened in June 2019).

Accessibility

This Huber Heights Walmart site is located off I-70 at exit 38.  The Walmart is about 0.5 miles south of the highway on Brandt Pike.  The units themselves are placed on the south side of the parking lot, right on one of the main entrance paths to the Walmart, adding to the traffic in this area.  The EVSE placement does not allow for pull-through parking.

Amenities

Dining options include: Bob Evans, Waffle House, Sonic Drive In

Shopping options include: Walmart, Goodwill

Car-related services (windshield cleaning, air):  Shell gas station 0.5 miles away.

Concentration

This Electrify America location offers up 6 charging dispensers.  Based on the usage while I was at this site, it seems like these 6 units are the minimum needed in this location.  This station is the pull/back into configuration, which would make charging with Elektra’s front port location easy, but those with fender locations may need to stretch the cables to make the connections.  I had to back into the spot with the Polestar 2’s charging port location.

Location

This site  I-70 on the eastside of Dayton, OH.  and can support travel to Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and is close to the I-75 north south route.  This is the last stop on that north/south route until Novi, MI or Roseville, MI leaving a very large gap on this highly traveled road.

50 Mile Loop:

150 to 200 Mile Range Estimate:

Speed

Electrify America has chargers that support the fastest speeds available today.  The sites support both 350kW and 150kW stations, and are well equipped to handle the current amount of electric cars and those yet to come.  The made in September of 2018 Signet charging units have been supporting most Ohio locations for 4 years already..

Summary

There was a F-150 Lightning pulling a trailer.  and it took up the parking spots to the end and pulled in almost perpendicular to the stall furthest from the Walmart.  The driver had to be creative to make a connection with the trailer attached.  Next, there was a broken dispenser being worked on.  The technician was driving a Lightening There were also a Bolt and an Audi Q4 here during my quick charge session.
