Introduction
In the past I have done dedicated trips to review the EVgo expansion in metro Detroit. For this trip I combined stops at the 3 new or significantly upgraded sites. These new and expanded sites improve the local EVgo network. Site reviews from July 7, 2026

This site matches what EVgo and GM described in their original partnership press release as a flagship site. The original form of this location opened in 2022 with 2 SK Signet 350kW units and 2 Delta 100kW city chargers. The SK Signet units had reliability issues from the start and were replaced with Delta 350kW units in the summer of 2024. Being directly across the street from the GM Technical Center, this site saw more traffic than could be handled with the continued push of GM into electrification. The upgrade to a 12-stall site should better serve the demand at this location. However, I am puzzled by the lack of using J3400/NACS ports here as this means drivers of the newest GM vehicles will have to use adapters. (This station opened in April 2022, closed in April 2026 for the upgrade and re-opened in June 2026).
Accessibility
This stop is 2.0 miles north of I-696 at exit 22 (Mound Rd). Meaning it does support this major east/west interstate. However, this site has most likely been placed to best support GM employees in the proximity to the Technical Center campus. These units have been moved under a large canopy still on the north side of the parking lot. The two-by-two parking does all for pull thru in any of the aisles, but doing so would block one charging spot. The spots on the east end are marked and signed for accessible usage.

Concentration
This site has 6 dispensers, and each can charge two cars at the same time, for a total of 12 stalls/ports. The 350kW dual charging units are arranged in a two-by-two layout. This layout enables pull thru at every stall, but doing so likely means blocking another charging parking spot. The stalls on the ends likely provide the most options for parking positions.
Location
This site is located along the heavily traveled I-696, this is not a road trip route but more of a commuter route. Distances to reference cities are Part Huron - 55 miles, Saginaw - 110 miles, Grayling - 210 miles, Lansing - 90 miles, Toledo, Oh - 75 miles.

Speed
EVgo is supporting maximum CCS charging speeds. The high-power Delta units are capable of both max 1000V and can do 500A. This site supports up to 350kW at each port, however the single high power units limit power to the second cable when 2 vehicles are charged at the same time. This site is well equipped to handle both road trip traffic and neighborhood charging. The Delta charging units here should be available to serve the electric car community for years to come. At this site the transformer is 1500kVA, well undersized for the total site power. If all ports are in use at the same time, this still allows just over 100kW to be available to each.
Summary
Nice to see GM and EVgo make such a big upgrade to a key charging location. While the charging was open, at the time of my visit the site was still under construction with active work being done to complete the signage on the canopy. Despite the construction, the site was actively being used by a diverse assortment of vehicles. Seen charging were a Jeep Wagoneer S, Polestar 2 and Cadillac Lyriq. This should be quite the pleasant place to stop and charge once fully open. After my visit, one unit was changed to that there are at least a couple J3400/NACS connectors to support new cars. With the site expected to be used mostly by new GM EVs, and all of those vehicles switched to this new connection standard, with the current layout some stalls will natively support those cars.
